President Bola Tinubu has given approval for N120 billion to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) throughout Nigeria.
The programme is expected to provide at least 650,000 young Nigerians with skills in technology, trades, and digital areas over the next two years, helping them fit into today’s job market needs.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmed, during the official opening of a community and education centre in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State. She explained that participants will receive monthly stipends, starter kits, and take-off funds to encourage youth participation in the TVET scheme.
This investment supports the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which focuses on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM), addressing the needs of out-of-school children, promoting girl-child education, digital transformation, and improving education quality.
Prof. Simon Akpama, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, said the newly opened centre reflects a renewed commitment to uplift local communities. He added that the centre’s training blends literacy, post-literacy, and vocational education for lasting impact.
