The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially started giving N75,000 every month to millions of citizens. This big move is part of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) plan to support low-income families and reduce poverty. It is expected to grow fast, with a total of 15 million households set to benefit before October 2025.
Let’s break down what’s happening, who qualifies, and how the money is being paid.
What Is the N75,000 Monthly Support?
This N75,000 monthly support is part of a large welfare program to help Nigerians facing tough times. Even though the CCT program began years ago, only about 2 million people got help during the first nine years. But now, in just six months, 6 million Nigerians have already received payments.
And there’s more – the government is planning to add another 9 million people by October 2025, pushing the total number of beneficiaries to 15 million.
This money is not given in cash. Instead, it goes directly to each person’s e-wallet, which is safer and quicker.
How Are Beneficiaries Selected?
Not everyone will get this money. To make sure the money goes to the right people, the government follows a step-by-step process:
- Every selected person is given a digital ID
- An e-wallet is opened for them
- Officials visit their homes to confirm who they are
- The World Bank team also checks if the person is real
As of now, 96% of the names on the payment list have been confirmed to be genuine. The remaining 4% were removed because they were either fake or could not be contacted.
What Is the Goal of This Payment?
This program is mainly for:
- Families with no or very low income
- People who can’t afford food, school, or hospital fees
- Communities in remote or hard-to-reach areas
By using better data and e-wallets, the government is also trying to stop fraud and make sure the help reaches only those who really need it.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, has been clear: only verified people will be paid, and this new method is working faster and better than before.
Source of the Money – How Is FG Paying?
This program is being backed by a \$800 million loan from the World Bank.
According to recent data:
- \$350 million has already been used to pay the first batch of beneficiaries
- The rest of the money will be spent as more people are added
This loan is being used in phases to manage the funds and cover the growing number of recipients.
