FG Begins Direct Cash Payment to 15 Million Nigerians – Over 6 Million Already Paid, Target Set for October 2025
The Federal Government has started a large-scale cash transfer to help poor and vulnerable families across Nigeria. This new cash support program is expected to reach 15 million households before the end of October 2025, and already more than 6 million people have been paid within just six months of rollout.
This is one of the fastest and widest-reaching poverty support systems Nigeria has ever seen.
One Million People Getting Paid Every Month
The update was shared by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, during a training program held in Jos. According to him, over one million Nigerians now receive payment monthly under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) system.
This is a major jump from the past. From 2016 to 2023, only around 2 million people received cash transfers – that’s less than 200,000 per year. But now, this new system is paying more people in one month than the old program did in an entire year.
How People Are Getting the Money
To receive the money, your name must be on the National Social Register. If you are listed, the government verifies your details at your home. Once verified, you are given a digital ID and connected to an e-wallet, where your payment is sent directly.
If someone is not found or the details don’t match, they are removed from the list. This step is helping the government stop fraud and make sure the money only goes to the right people.
World Bank Checked the Process – 96% Found Genuine
After the first 4 million payments, the World Bank was invited to do an independent check. They visited homes to confirm the list and found that 96% of the beneficiaries were real and living at the addresses provided. Only 4% were either not found or living in hard-to-reach places.
This result shows that the new system is working well and is much more organized than before.
President Tinubu’s Deadline is October 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given a clear order: pay 15 million households by October 2025. This is now the national target. Ministries and state teams are working daily to meet this goal.
With this order in place, the government is treating the fight against poverty as a serious national mission.
Not Just Cash – Youth Training Also Included
Apart from cash support, the government has also introduced the Skills-to-Wealth (S2W) program to help young people gain useful skills.
The focus areas include:
- Modern farming and smart agriculture
- Solar and renewable energy training
- Car repairs and mechanical work
These skills are meant to help young Nigerians earn income and reduce joblessness in the long run.
Why This Matters Right Now
This program has already helped triple the number of people supported in just half a year, compared to what was achieved in nine full years. If the momentum continues, Nigeria will hit 15 million families helped by the October 2025 deadline.
This may be the strongest move yet by the government to reduce poverty and give real help to those who need it most.
What You Should Do If You’re Waiting
If your household is already listed on the National Social Register but you haven’t been paid yet — don’t panic. Payments are being made in batches. Your turn may be coming very soon.
Make sure your information is correct and wait for further instructions from the official channels. Keep checking for updates and alerts from the payment teams in your area.
Final Words
From only 2 million people paid in 9 years to now over 6 million paid in 6 months, this new plan is clearly moving fast. And with a goal of reaching 15 million families by October 2025, this could be a game-changer for millions of Nigerians.
Stay alert. Stay hopeful. This cash payment you’ve been waiting for could arrive any day now.
